My name is Lizzie, I'm 10 years old and in the 4th grade.
I like origami and drawing, and littlest pet shop. I love Hello Kitty too.
I have 3 sisters and 2 brothers. My little sister Becca gets her finger poked sometimes to make sure her sugar level is ok. My mommy has some friends whose kids are sick with diabetes, and I wanted to do something to help, so my mommy and I came up with the Cranes 4 a Cure. I want to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. My sister is lucky, she doesn't have diabetes, but a lot of kids do, and it isn't fair. Anyone can get juvenile diabetes, you don't have to have a family history. I think they need to find a cure fast so the kids who have it can be needle free, I don't like needles.

So I guess you want to know what Cranes 4 a Cure is.
It is said that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish. Sometimes relatives or friends fold the cranes for someone who has an illness in hopes for recovery or a long life.

My goal is to raise $1,000.00. For every dollar I raise, I am going to make an origami crane and put the name of the person who sent me that dollar on the wing. Then I am going to string all the cranes together and give it to the juvenile diabetes foundation with all the money I raise. Then my wish will be to find a cure. Please help me help those kids with this bad disease. My mommy says she will take a picture of every crane I make and post it here for everyone to see. For more information, please email my mommy, her name is Jenny. A dollar isn't a lot, but it can make a difference. I hope to get some pictures of kids you can help soon.
Thank you.

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile.  I have some great news, but I'm not going to share it just yet.  I have a new chip in, it replaces my old one.  The JDRF Walk for a Cure is May 12, 2012. My whole family are going to walk.  I think our name is going to be Team Giulia.  For Giulia.

I know it's been awhile since I updated last. I'm very sorry about that. My mommy's computer quit working and she couldn't get anything loaded. But she's got a new one, so that means I'll be back here every day again. This Friday is the Fall Festival at my school. I can't wait! We might be bringing my friend with us. My school was also picked to host the New Orleans Saints Junior Training camp. That was last week. I had a lot of fun!
Next month is Diabetes awareness month. There is not enough awareness about diabetes and the damage it does. I'm only $76.00 away from my initial goal of $1,000.00 for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. I hope I can reach it next month. I've already got more ideas about how to keep raising, but you'll have to wait to find out. Please spread the word about Diabetes awareness month. We will find a cure, but we need to let people know why we need it so bad.

If you are in the Mobile Alabama area this weekend, and you want to support Diabetes Research, you can go to The Fresh Market. It’s holding its “Hope Floats” Sidewalk Sale on September 9 through September 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. There will be root beer floats, hot dogs and ice cream sundaes each for a $2 donation and gourmet cookies each for a $1 donation. Sugar-free root beer floats and sundaes are also available. The Fresh Market will donate 100 percent of the money raised over the three-day sale of these items directly to JDRF to support its mission to find a cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications. I think we are going to try to go on Sunday. It sounds like a lot of fun.

Last week we went on vacation. We've never really gone on a vacation before. It was a lot of fun. We went to Tennessee. We stayed in a cabin in the Smokey Mountains. This is me on the tram up to Ober Gatlinburg. It was like a little amusement park at the top of the mountain.
Me and Emily rode the ski lift up even higher.

Jack rode the water slide with me.

We also got to drive around The Smokey Mountain National Park and saw two black bears. That was really neat. Mommy is going to post more pictures on her blog later. I wish we could go back someday.
Thank you to everyone who has donated, we are very close to our goal!
