My name is Lizzie, I'm 10 years old and in the 4th grade.
I like origami and drawing, and littlest pet shop. I love Hello Kitty too.
I have 3 sisters and 2 brothers. My little sister Becca gets her finger poked sometimes to make sure her sugar level is ok. My mommy has some friends whose kids are sick with diabetes, and I wanted to do something to help, so my mommy and I came up with the Cranes 4 a Cure. I want to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. My sister is lucky, she doesn't have diabetes, but a lot of kids do, and it isn't fair. Anyone can get juvenile diabetes, you don't have to have a family history. I think they need to find a cure fast so the kids who have it can be needle free, I don't like needles.

So I guess you want to know what Cranes 4 a Cure is.
It is said that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish. Sometimes relatives or friends fold the cranes for someone who has an illness in hopes for recovery or a long life.

My goal is to raise $1,000.00. For every dollar I raise, I am going to make an origami crane and put the name of the person who sent me that dollar on the wing. Then I am going to string all the cranes together and give it to the juvenile diabetes foundation with all the money I raise. Then my wish will be to find a cure. Please help me help those kids with this bad disease. My mommy says she will take a picture of every crane I make and post it here for everyone to see. For more information, please email my mommy, her name is Jenny. A dollar isn't a lot, but it can make a difference. I hope to get some pictures of kids you can help soon.
Thank you.

Cranes!

I have decided to start my Cranes again.  I like the sneakers, but the Cranes are fun to make, and they look really neat hung.  I'm going to aim for another $1,000.00 for JDRF.  The 2nd annual Walk for a Cure is in April, so I hope I can raise that much between now and then.  I raised a little over $300.00 in sneaker sales, so thank you to everyone who helped.  Please pass my blog around and get the word out.  We still need a cure!

Lots of people to thank!

It's been too long.  I've had a busy summer.  I wanted to thank those who continue to help me raise money and awareness.  We still need a cure!
Thank you Jessica, James, Karleen, Becky, Lori, Tammy, Colin, Logan, David,
Mrs. Hemming, Nati, Diego, Rose, Rabbi Gerson, John, Giulia, Emily, Mrs. Porto, Wendy,
Vikki, Dezi, Lee, John, Divina, Mr. Tax, Mary and Becky's Eatery.
Every dollar raised is a dollar closer to fund the research to find a CURE for Diabetes.  Want to see your name?  All you have to do is click on the chip in at the top of the page. Thanks!

I went to Art Camp this summer.  It was a lot of fun.  This is one of the things I did.

Still here

Mommy said to tell everyone its her fault I'm behind.  We have been really busy this summer, but that doesn't mean raising awareness isn't part of it.  I'm still raising money too.  I forgot to tell you that my school is also doing a Walk for Kids next year.  We were going to do it before school got out, but decided not to rush it.  Mommy took more pictures of me holding more sneakers, but she forgot where she uploaded them to.  I went to art camp and had a lot of fun.  Today we are going to a wedding and going to see fireworks in the Bay.  Happy 4th of July!

I am still here!!!

I had my bakesale in April.  It was a lot of fun and I raised $250.00 for JDRF from the goodies I helped make and sold.

We had our first ever Walk For a Cure on May 12.  It was a lot of fun.  Our team was Team Giulia.   My daddy made that big sneaker out of wood.
The whole Team Giulia (except for a couple people that couldn't be found for the picture)

And I got glasses.   I'm also behind on posting my sneaker pictures, so I need to get caught up.  Thanks to Melissa, Mr. Farmer, Teresa Pace and Chuck.  I'll try to post some every day.  I'm still raising money, just because the walk is over doesn't mean I stopped.  Just click on the chipin...every dollar makes a difference.

Kickoff Party

Thursday night was the kickoff party for the first ever Walk for a Cure in Pensacola.  It was a lot of fun, and lots of people came.  This is where I gave Ms. Kathleen the check.  She was so excited.
Then she gave me a huge thank you card signed by everyone that was there and some really pretty flowers.  They are on the dining room table now and still smell good.
And these are my Cranes.  All 1,000 of them.  Everyone thought they were pretty.

We are still looking for a cure though.  Every little bit helps.  On April 7th, if you are in Pensacola, please stop by the elementary school.  I will be there having a bake sale for JDRF and there is also going to be a Relay for Life garage sale.  I already saw some of the stuff, it's really neat.

Cranes 971-1,000

Cranes 971-1,000  are all Giulia.  Although I have never met Giulia, I feel like I know her so much.  Someday I hope I get to meet her.  Giulia doesn't let diabetes get her down, but she is waiting for a cure.  Just because I've reached 1,000 cranes, doesn't mean I'm going to stop.  If you think about it, $1,000.00 isn't really a lot when you think about what is needed to help find a cure.  That's why it is so important to keep people informed and raise awareness as well as money.  Every little bit helps.  My blog isn't going anywhere, please keep following and see what a difference $1.00 can make in the lives of people like Giulia, living with diabetes, and the many people that will be diagnosed with diabetes this year.  With your support, we will find a cure.  I hope it's soon.

Cranes 830-834

Cranes 835-839

All these cranes are for Giulia!
My little sister has been having problems with her blood sugar.  She was sick last weekend and went really high.  Mommy has been poking her in the night to make sure she is ok and she doesn't even wake up.  I think if I were getting poked, I would.  Please help us find a cure.  Hopefully my sister is just having weird numbers and they will go back to normal, but there are a lot of kids that has to get poked every night and it's not really fair.
My mommy took my uncle to the hospital this week.  She came home and told me about a guy that was there that was really sick.  He wasn't a kid, but he had type 1 diabetes.  It doesn't care how old you are, or who you are.  Mommy said she was talking to him because he was alone.  He was getting moved up to the ICU because of DKA.  He had blood sugar numbers over 400 and was really sick and really scared.  Please say a prayer that he is ok.
Please help us find a cure!

I just know we will find a cure one day.  I hope it's soon.
